“These portraits have all been developed directly from drawings made in lifedrawing sessions. Often a model’s vulnerabilities and frailties become more evident in longer poses and there is a shifting, adjusting and layering of marks and materials during a drawing in an attempt to reflect the sometimes fleeting expressions on a model’s face. Further development of these drawings with paint can evoke quite different reflections but they are always a continuation of the conversation between myself and the model”.
